In elite motorsport, excellence is built on precision, composure and an instinct for pushing past the expected. Few athletes embody these qualities as clearly as Diego Domínguez, one of the most closely watched young rally drivers from South America.
Domínguez belongs to the third generation of a Paraguayan rally family. In 2024 he became the first Paraguayan driver to be crowned world champion in one of the FIA World Rally Championship categories, taking the WRC3 title with five rally wins and securing it at Rally Chile. He now competes in WRC2 with MSi Racing, driving a Toyota GR Yaris Rally2. This season he finished third in WRC2 Challenger at Safari Rally Kenya, and on 30 August he won WRC2 at Rally Paraguay, becoming the first Paraguayan to win a WRC2 rally, in front of his home crowd.
When the precision of rally meets the precision of haute horlogerie’s Master of Complications, something extraordinary is born. Earlier this year at Watchland, Franck Muller’s home in Geneva, Domínguez worked alongside Jean Loup, Head of Design at the Maison, to create his first Unique Piece, a one of one Vanguard Krypton. The 2 and 7 numerals, a nod to his lucky number, are picked out in red, and the colours of the Paraguayan flag appear in the indexes. A personalised engraving of his logo marks the caseback.
The Vanguard collection already carries a strongly sporty identity. This interpretation takes it further, with each component considered to reflect the personality of its owner. The result is a watch designed to represent Diego.
It is an uncommon story, that of a Latin American athlete whose journey leads all the way to Geneva not as the exception, but as a natural extension of what Franck Muller understands by precision under pressure.
